<--Dynamite--Sam--> asked:
I mean what are their equivalents today, compared with what archery and horsemanship were before we discovered gunpowder and tanks..

Archery and horse back riding. We still do them both.

Well both still exist today, I’m not sure what you’re asking.
Are you talking about horse archery? Even that is still practiced in some parts of the world. They still do that in Mongolia for sure. Japan has a ceremonial form of it in Yabusame. I’m sure someone in the SCA that owns horses has done it. I heard from the local group that they have a few horse archers at one of their events.

I would have to say the Bradley fighting vehicle. Fast attack light vehicle with decent armament. It’s not infantry, but it’s not a siege weapon either.

Jets and missiles

If you are asking about the modern **military** equivalents…
Air Cav, Armored Troop Carriers, Artillery and fighter jets — just to name a few. For an excellent example of what Air Cavalry is/does, watch the movie “We Were Soldiers”. Just so you know, “artillery” is the ancient name for military archery.
But horsemanship is alive and well, in the form of the Cowboy (North America) and the Vaquero (Central & South America). Oh, and show riding and rodeo riding, too.
