I want to take up archery as a hobby?

archery
Amy asked:

I have never so much as touched a bow and arrow, but I think it would be a really fun hobby. Where would I go to start or find information?

1.Start by buying a bow and a set of arrows
    2. Go to your local gun club. almost every town has one
    3. find out when archery classes are, how much they cost, and when hunter safety is.
    4. Attend the classes
    5. Have fun with your new hobby

    Hope this helped!

No, let’s NOT go to a native american reservation! How would that help? I think it’s a fun hobby, although I taught myself instead of taking classes! (I hate being told what to do!) Perhaps you should check if you city has an archery range (most do), they might be able to provide lessons or classes if you want to be taught that way! Bows have specified draw weights, measured by the ammount of pounds of force it takes to draw a 26″ arrow (the heavier the draw the more powerful the bow is, of course!). I’m gonna geusse that your’e over 10 (I”m 16), in which case a 20 lb. draw would probably be fine to start with (fiberglass- apx. $35), although if you find you like the sport 35 to 40 lb. would be better once you got more experienced. They also sell those finger protecter thingies for you to draw the string with without hurting your skin, although I prefer leather gloves for a variety of reasons! They sell fiberglass arrows for cheap, but those are usually only compatiable with cheaper fiberglass bows! I auctually use aluminium hunting arrows, even though I don’t hunt, but they’re very auccurate and powerful (once I put one through a stell fence pole) but if you want to invest more money carbon arrows won’t bend like aluminiums sometimes do! Wood arrows are something of a rarity, and I know nothing about them!
Sorry for rambling, but I hope I helped ya’!

Try to find an archery shop within a reasonable distance. Preferable one that has a indoor range.

Most(not all) have bows that you can try. And will also fit you for the proper arrows. And give you a few lessons.

Archery is an excellent hobby. And once you have purchased your initial equipment-a very inexpensive one too.

I enjoy shooting several hours a week. Inside and out.

    Have fun!!
